Follow Me…and Pray

Jesus prayed. Jesus told us to pray. We should pray. Wow! Deep huh?

Prayer is not difficult to do. If we are capable of talking we are capable of praying. It is talking to God. Yet somehow there are times where I just don’t have time. Or, I barely have time and I have to fit it in somewhere. You know, I just pray when I’m driving or while I’m taking a shower. Those prayers aren’t usually focused.

God is the creator of all things. He is all powerful. He is all knowing. He can do anything he wants at any time he wants. He is who we are praying to. He, amazingly, wants us to talk with him. He wants to speak to us. The creator of the universe wants to talk to us and yet we are the ones that don’t have time for him. In Christ Jesus we are his children and he is our Father, an amazing father. He loves us not because we are good, not because we deserve it but because we are his children. He desires us. He desires our time, he desires our prayer. That is amazing.

Not only does he want us to talk to him but the creator of all things wants to be active in our lives. Jesus says this in Luke 11:9-13:

9 And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 11 What father among you, if his son asks for[d] a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; 12 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

The truth is, we don’t really believe what Jesus says in Luke when we don’t pray. We don’t really believe in the power of prayer when we don’t have time or we just fit it in. When we believe in what Jesus said above prayer is a priority. It takes on importance of more value than Netflix, social media, whatever television show, whatever hobby. It is worth it to wake up early or stay up late. It is worth it to skip a meal, just so we can pray.

Jesus prayed. Jesus told us to pray. We should pray. Not just because we are supposed to, but because it will change your life and it will change who you are. The all powerful creator wants to talk to you.

Do you have time for that?
